One of the most common questions we hear is “Can I get Whole Story Meals through insurance?”

Most of our customers receive our whole food meals delivered to their door, with costs covered by insurance. And while the process might seem confusing at first, it’s more doable than it may seem. And we’re here to help every step of the way.

Here’s how it works:

Step 1: Get a Prescription from your doctor

Ask your doctor to write a prescription for Whole Story Meals as your source of enteral nutrition. In some cases, your doctor may need to provide additional documentation, such as a Letter of Medical Necessity. We're happy to help with that too.

Want to try Whole Story Meals before you commit?

Step 2: Send the Prescription to Your DME Provider

Once your prescription is ready, your doctor’s office should send it to your DME (Durable Medical Equipment) provider, the company that manages your enteral supplies.

If your DME already carries Whole Story Meals, they’ll handle the rest. If they don’t yet, you can request that they carry our meals. Sometimes, customers switch to a DME that already carries our meals.

Step 3: The DME Submits the Claim to Insurance

Your DME will bill your insurance company. If approved, our meals will be covered just like other enteral nutrition products, and they will be shipped directly to your home.

Appealing Insurance Denials

If you receive a denial from your insurance company, don't give up. Occasionally, insurance denies the first claim. But that’s not the end of the road.

Many families successfully appeal with additional documentation from their doctor and support from our advocacy team.

We’ve seen it work time and time again, and we’re here to walk beside you.

Tips from Families Who’ve Been There

Here’s what we’ve learned from others who have successfully received coverage:

Talk to your care team early. Let your doctor and dietitian know you're interested in switching to Whole Story Meals. Their support can make a big difference.

Our Advocacy handout is a free resource with the language and supporting evidence you need to confidently advocate for whole foods.

You're not just switching meals. You're choosing a better way. Because Whole Story Meals is about more than nutrition, it’s about reclaiming freedom.

We’re here to answer questions and offer support and guidance in pursuing insurance coverage.
